Written Prescriptions |
| |
|
Beginning in April, 2009, there will be a $5 fee for prescription refills that are written or faxed to us and require a doctor's review of the chart and signature and then a return call or fax to the pharmacy. This is to compensate the doctors for the time they spend reviewing the medical charts to refill prescriptions. This does include heartworm prevention. Be aware that many topical flea and tick treatments such as Frontline and Advantix, or dietary supplements such as Glucosamine and Cosequin, do not require prescriptions; they are available over the counter. Our doctors have agonized for years over whether or not to charge for this service, and they have come to the decision that it is taking up such a large amount of their time that this is fair for them but not too much of a burden for our clients. Please be aware that you are not simply paying for a piece of paper with their signature on it. You are paying for their time and knowledge used to review your pet's chart as well as assess their need for the medications. They also need to verify that it is indeed safe to refill them or re-evaluate the medications. |
